On this mid-winter eve, be warmed by the glow of literary discovery at the first-ever Debut Crew Revue held in the festival marquee. Six debut authors will treat us to readings and conversation under a starry festoon sky, alongside musical interludes and mingling by the on-site bar. Susannah Begbie, Deborah Callaghan, Maxine Fawcett and Liam Murphy fling us fresh fiction traversing road trips and midlife crises to an unwanted surprise from a cranky father’s will. Simone Amelia Jordan and Oliver Twist deliver debut memoirs full of surprises, danger and heart. Grab a table and meet a new favourite be that author, book, or friendly face – at the Debut Crew Revue, hosted by theatrical girl wonder, Emily Taylor

Maxine Fawcett

Maxine Fawcett originally from the UK lives in Sydney, where she runs a media and marketing agency with her husband. ‘Everything is Perfect‘ is her debut novel.

Simone Amelia Jordan

Simone Amelia Jordan

Simone Amelia Jordan is Australia’s most successful rap journalist. Resolute about hip-hop’s power to change the world, she mentors the next generation of multicultural talent through her work with Media Diversity Australia and Diversity Arts Australia. Her first book, Tell Her She’s Dreamin’, won the Richell Prize for Emerging Writers.

Liam Murphy

Liam Murphy

Liam Murphy is a professional writer, living between Sydney and the Central Coast. After graduating from the University of Technology Sydney with a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, he went on to work and write for various News Corp and Nine-Fairfax mastheads. Liam is now working with the NRMA, and his writing features in Open Road magazine.

Deborah Callaghan

Deborah Callaghan

Deborah Callaghan was an interstate train stewardess, a librarian and a freelance journalist before she started a 35 year career in publishing; as a publicist, a publisher, and a literary agent in her own company. She lives in Sydney with her husband, two daughters and three lovely dogs.

Oliver Twist

Oliver Twist

Oliver Twist is a writer and actor. He has toured Australia with his critically acclaimed shows Jali and Griot, and appeared on SBS and the ABC. As a comic, he has been chosen to open for the best national and international acts. He has been lauded as a talent both by critics and by audiences, gaining him award nominations for his work.

Susannah Begbie

Susannah Begbie

Susannah Begbie grew up on a sheep farm in NSW. She is a GP and has worked all over Australia. In 2006 Susannah started a Graduate Diploma in Professional Writing at Canberra University. She may finish it yet. The Deed is her first novel.

Emily Taylor

Host: Emily Taylor

Emily is an actor, writer, theatre maker and director, currently completing her play Deep Water (supported by The Art House Wyong and Create NSW), a dark satire set where she lives on the Central Coast. Emily has won multiple awards for her solo theatre shows and this year is immersed in doing a Masters degree in Dramatic Writing at NIDA. A full time student for the first time in 20 years (and thus in danger of impoverished malnourishment), Emily is available to MC weddings, funerals and bar mitzvahs.
