We were thrilled to hear your feedback from the 2021 event, and we’ve shared some of the more interesting insights from the survey below.
The vast majority of you identified as female (91%) and you are mostly aged 61 and up, with 64% fitting into this category, followed by 32% aged 42 – 60.
As for your journey to Words on the Waves, 25% of you travelled from outside the region for the festival specifically (thank you for making the trip!). How you first found out about it was a bit of a mixed bag, with Word-of-Mouth topping the list at 40% followed by Social Media (22%), Media (15%) and attending a previous event (8%). We always find it so fascinating how the whispers of news and events travel through communities, and this proves that for us this was mostly powered by good old-fashioned conversation. So if you enjoyed the festival, please do tell your friends (more on that later!)
Interestingly, nearly one in five of you were not able to get your hands on the event tickets you were interested in. We know that many of our festival sessions sold out in record time, so while not surprised, rest assured we are putting in place measures that will hopefully ensure this is not an issue in 2022.
Of the things you enjoyed the most about the weekend, you mentioned the bookshop onsite (our wonderful festival partner The Book Shop Umina), the panel sessions, and the venues (which offer stunning outlooks and ambience, we agree). A huge percentage of you purchased a book (35%), a beverage (35%, goes nicely with a book and that view we mentioned), and a meal. All this information is really helpful in crunching the other ways we can contribute to the Central Coast community, and its businesses and producers.
Looking forward, you nominate Literary Fiction and Journalism as your top interests for the 2022 program – and, it sounds like we will see you there, as 100% of you confirmed you would attend Words on the Waves in the future! Thank you so much for this vote of confidence – and, don’t forget to tell your friends about it, we’re sure they’d like to join too. (You can send them to this page if they’d like to sign up to our mailing list).
Thanks again to all those who participated, and congratulations to the winner of the double pass giveaway who has already been contacted.
