In this two-hour workshop, Faber Writing Academy at Allen & Unwin’s Editor-in-Residence Ellen O’Brien will take you through the ins and outs of the editing process, offering insights into how to produce concise and compelling writing. Ellen will use grounded examples to cover topics such as reading work from an editor’s point-of-view, navigating the different stages of the editorial process, and incorporating editorial feedback into your work. This workshop is ideally suited to writers who are interested in improving their editing skills, whether to apply to their own writing or to others’ work.

Catherine Milne

Catherine Milne has worked in publishing for many years, including with Penguin Books, Allen & Unwin, and since 2012, with HarperCollins, where she is now Head of Fiction.  Her list encompasses literary and crossover fiction and narrative non-fiction, and is eclectic, award-winning and bestselling. Jane McCredie is an award-winning writer and journalist. She is the author of Making Girls and Boys: Inside the science of sex and a former editor of The Best Australian Science Writing. Jane is the founder and director of the Quantum Words Festival of writing about science (Sydney, Perth) and is currently CEO of Writing NSW and senior judge for the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards.

Ellen is a Guringai (Garigal/Walkeloa) writer and editor living on Bidjigal land. Ellen is the Editor-in-Residence at the Faber Writing Academy at Allen & Unwin, and the Program Officer for The Writing Zone at Western Sydney University.

Eleanor Limprecht

Eleanor Limprecht is the author of four novels: The Coast, The Passengers, Long Bay and What Was Left. Her short fiction and essays have been published various places including Best Australian Stories, Meanjin, The Saturday Pater, Griffith Review, Kill Your Darlings and The Big Issue. She has been shortlisted for the ALS Gold Medal and was the recipient of the Australian Society of Authors Blake-Beckett Trust Scholarship. Eleanor has a Doctorate of Creative Arts from UTS and is the chair of the Board of Directors at Writing NSW.
